Spring is Here!
Following up on an earlier post of “perfect for any décor”, several folks generously provided prime examples of doing just that. “NMI” of South Carolina sent the header photo of an ensemble that was put up in a new medical office. She grouped 3 maps together, enlivening the public area with much of the coastline. Perhaps more than most people would put in a house but very appropriate for a commercial space.
Cassie Clayshulte Photography, of Bluffton, South Carolina, has chosen to use the maps as backdrops in her very personalized shoots for special family members.
In a different form altogether, the maps appeared in video media, with the Florida Keys serving as a backdrop, albeit fleeting, for several installments on Discovery Go, Destination America and Pursuit Channels. These can currently be viewed on YouTube at Sports Fishing Television—Baker’s Dozen, minutes 2:50 to 2:54. Don’t blink or you’ll miss them! Nonetheless, it was nice to see someone using the maps in another alternate form and responding to their evocative display of coastal landforms and their interaction with the sea.
So, as I work on a new map, likely the Gulf Coast of Texas, and we dig out of a long, tiresome winter in the Northeast and look to better weather and immanent outdoor, water-related activities that go with the warming season, I encourage any interested cartographiles to take another (or first) look at Coastal Art Maps and see if any of the work speaks to you. Spring Ahead!
